Welcome to the Texas Tech Summer College Experience!
This is a residential, academic experience. The purpose of the program is high students a collegiate experience. You will have a roommate and sleep in a dorm. You will eat in the dormitory’s dining hall. You will listen to several college lectures. You will also be provided academic study skills, as well as tours of the physical and electronic databases at the library. You will learn speaking and research skills in order to develop and to present a short research project. You will be offered surveys that ask you about your gifts, talents, and interests in order to help you select a major and a career. You will learn about the different support services offered at Texas Tech, including support for first generation students as well as academic advising. You will meet with representatives from the Texas Tech Admissions Office and the Financial Aid Office. You will be partnered with a current Texas Tech student who will act as an academic mentor for you.
Throughout the day the Academic Mentors will meet with you, as part of a small group called an Academic Cohort Group, to offer you support as you work on your research project. They will meet again with you in the evenings to discuss the events of the day and preview the upcoming day.
